Maiden Voyage

Family is the heart of what goes on with this blog. What I am hoping to do is keep up with family happenings; to provide a place where Lawrence / Pike / Millward / Hiss folk can check in and  keep up on what we are all involved in.

I (center front row) am the momma of three talented, amazing daughters and one fine, hard-working son.  The daughters have fallen in love, increased our family circle with sons-in-laws (who are beyond compare), and added some little people who we are all nuts about.  These little ones are growing and surprising us with their intelligence, attractiveness, and overall 'improvement on the stock'. Just stopped writing to take a call from Jaxson who is learning to read, and wanted to read aloud to me.  The good-looking guy next to me is my spouse of 35 years.  He is as good as he is handsome.

Additionally, I come from fine parents who raised me and my five siblings to be honorable people who work hard, pray faithfully, and value our family ties.  We actually all love and get along with one another, and enjoy getting together with all our kids--and their kids.  The sister next in age to me is currently battling breast cancer.  I honor her and love her especially for her enduring courage.

Interests I am passionate about are:

  • Family, Genealogy and family history
  • Financial Preparedness.
  • Thrifting and finding the bestest bargain ever (I am not just passionate, I am addicted) The trick is to locate quality which inspires re-purposing.  I am currently crazy-quilting an eReader cover made from high quality silk ties.
  • A really good book
  • Sewing (apparel design and highest-quality construction). Yeah, I was that girl who made formals and wedding attire for all my Barbie's (and daughters). Check out my shop on Etsy called Couture Petite)
  • Quilting the old-fashioned way.  It's the rhythm of the hand-stitching that transports me to a better place.
  • Serving others in compassionate and anonymous ways
  • Watercolor and oil painting.  Currently taking classes...always wanted to try my hand at these.
  • Tatting and Crochet
  • Homemaking.  Yep, not house-wife-ing (offensive descriptor). I am convinced it is still a satisfying art, to daily attempt to be an excellent homemaker in a hopelessy romantic-style home.
If you wish to jump in and share on any of these topics, just comment.
